Comic-Con 2010: The Avengers cast (video+article)

In a surprise move, the cast of Avengers made their debut in person at the end of Marvel Studios film panel in Hall H at the 2010 San Diego Comic-Con.

A teaser clip was shown, consisting of Colonial Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) speaking about a super team while the Avengers logo slowly takes form.

The crowd went wild as Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige welcomed Jackson on stage to introduce the first half of the Avengers cast that had already been announced: Clark Gregg (S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Coulson), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers/Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man), the latter of whom took over the mic.

“Did anyone see Inception?” asked Downey, who jokingly proceeded to describe it as one of the most ambitious film projects out there until considering Marvel’s efforts to produce a movie with all their most popular super-heroes.

Downey then announced new cast members Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye) and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/The Hulk) and fan favorite director Joss Whedon to the stage. Downey made it a point to say he wholeheartedly approved of Ruffalo’s casting.

“If I may, just very briefly say: I have had a dream all my life. And, it was not this good,” Whedon said. “I want to thank Kevin [Feige] so much for bringing me on for trusting me and for assembling my dream team. This cast is more than I could ever have dreamed of working with.”

“And I am going to blow it. I’m not up to it. I’m very nervous. I need your love,” he said jokingly, to even more thunderous applause.
